Outdoor Ray Bay
Want to know what a stingray or shark feels like? Ray Bay at Atlantis Marine World is the place to find out. You can touch southern stingrays (Dasyatis americana) – which grow up to 5 feet wide and 10 feet long, including the tail – cownose rays (Rhinoptera bonasus), and even participate in scheduled feedings of these gentle creatures.
Ray Bay is also home to white-spotted bamboo sharks (Chiloscyllium plagiosum), slender bottom-dwellers that live in the Pacific Ocean from Japan to Indonesia, and Thailand to India.
The outdoor version of Atlantis Marine World’s Ray Bay is a seasonal exhibit, open from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
Did you know?
Stingrays are not the aggressive creatures many people believe. They use their stinger primarily to avoid being eaten by predators.
